ARA-290 Research Material — Helix-B-Derived Innate Repair Receptor Agonist
ARA-290 is a synthetic 11-amino-acid peptide modeled on the aqueous face of helix B of erythropoietin (EPO). It was designed to isolate EPO’s tissue-protective signaling from its hematopoietic activity, making it a widely used tool for studying the innate repair receptor independently of red-cell production.
Mechanism of Action
ARA-290 selectively engages the innate repair receptor (IRR), a heteromeric complex of the EPO receptor and the β-common receptor (CD131). Unlike full-length EPO, it does not activate the classical EPOR homodimer that drives erythropoiesis. In preclinical models, IRR engagement is associated with reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine signaling and modulation of cell-survival pathways.
Research Applications
- Innate repair receptor (EPOR/CD131) signaling and receptor-selectivity studies
- Inflammatory cytokine modulation in in-vitro and animal models
- Peripheral nerve and small-fiber models in preclinical neuropathy research
- Comparator studies against full-length EPO for non-erythropoietic signaling
